Arenzo Smith moved to Hawaii in 1991. He has been a professional artist since 1962. He received five years of professional training at the Philadelphia Museum College of Art, majoring in interior design and studying both fine art and graphic design. His diverse professional experience includes architectural consulting as well as fabric, furniture and interior design. He has worked as an independent contractor for the the design firms Graphikus and Keith Collins in southern California. Mural and design clients include the Mira Mar Hotel in Santa Monica, and the Honolulu International Airport restaurant and executive offices. Arenzo is a featured artist in the book Black Artists on Art by Samela Lewis.

Arenzo carries his design training into his fine art. Unlike most artists who may just paint or draw something for themselves, he often considers what a potential client would like to see, feel, or express, as he contemplates the creative process. His fine art often grows from a collaboration not unlike the professional relationships he enjoyed as a design consultant. Current projects include illustration of children's books.
